We’ve gained good experience, and are putting it to use to make big improvements
You may have experienced it last year, slowdowns were felt at the beginning of multiple races and it is always a frustrating way to start. This year, there will be some changes in the route at the beginning of the race, and waved starts will be in place on the 100K, 50K and 20K to better manage the flow and ensure fewer slowdowns throughout the race.
The village of Roubion, built on the side of a cliff and dominating the Vionène valley, gave a bit of trouble to the shuttle at the start of the 100K. Work on one of the two main roads leading to the start line created congestion and caused a delay at the start of the 100K. This situation will be avoided in 2023 since the shuttles will be able to arrive from the west and take a wider road accessible to all. The drop-off will be at the Buisses parking lot, a few hundred meters from the starting line. The entire transportation plan has also been reviewed and modified to ensure a better experience for runners and supporters alike.
In 2022, the rain throughout the weekend damaged the finish line and the runners' reception area. We wanted something natural and cosy, you mostly got mud and wet tables. So, even if we strongly believe in a much sunnier 2nd edition from Thursday to Sunday, this year, we aren’t leaving anything to chance: all running services will be installed on the Promenade des Anglais, sheltered and with the promise of dry feet and with a view of the Mediterranean Sea!
The arrival in the heart of Nice could destabilize some runners, the roads become more numerous and the route sometimes unclear. This year, there will be increased course markings on the proportion in town to avoid any doubts at the end of the race and allow you to reach the finish line without any trouble.
