Running Stones

What is a Running Stone ?
A Running Stone is an entry into the lottery to participate in the UTMB World Series Finals: the UTMB, CCC and OCC races of the UTMB Mont-Blanc.
Only 1 Running Stone acquired in the past two years is mandatory to enter the lottery. Running Stones are cumulative, have no expiration date, and each Running Stone gives you an additional chance to be drawn.
How do I earn Running Stones ?
You can only collect Running Stones by finishing races in the 20K, 50K, 100K or 100M category at a UTMB World Series Event or UTMB World Series Major.
Discover the 29 events that will allow you to collect Running Stones in 2023 to enter the UTMB Mont-Blanc lottery from 2024 onwards.

UTMB Index
Only accessible on this website, the UTMB Index provides the performance level of each runner.
What is the UTMB Index ?
Assessing the performance level of each trail runner, the UTMB Index is calculated for each of the 4 UTMB World Series race categories: 20K,50K,100k and 100M. Trail runners are also given a General UTMB Index calculated by combining results from all race categories.
A valid UTMB Index is mandatory to enter the UTMB Mont-Blanc lottery.
How do I get a valid UTMB Index ?
A valid UTMB Index is achieved by completing at least one race of the UTMB World Series or a UTMB Index race in the relevant category within the previous 24 months. Once a race category has at least 1 valid result, all races from the past 36 months will be used to calculate your UTMB Index.
To enter the UTMB Mont-Blanc lottery for the race of your choice, you must have a valid UTMB Index as per the chart.
Elite runners
Under the new sports system, elite runners must qualify for the UTMB World Series Finals.
Qualification for elite runners
To gain access to the UTMB World Series Finals, the best athletes on the planet must qualify by taking part in the UTMB World Series Majors or UTMB World Series Events races over a period of 15 months. This allows elite runners to optimize their season and their recovery periods.
The first 10 men and women on the UTMB World Series Majors, as well as the first 3 men and women on the UTMB World Series Events in each of the 50K, 100K and 100M categories, will win a place at the UTMB World Series Finals in the equivalent category.
